Doula Services

Having a Doula in the delivery room is increasingly common - and for good reason.

But is it for you?

What does a Doula do?

A Doula is a non-medical professional that provides continuous physical and emotional support, comfort and education to the birthing person before, during and after birth.

Unlike an OB/GYN or midwife, a Doula does not have medical training - the Doula is there to serve as a soothing voice of experience, help with relaxation techniques and breathing exercises, offer advice on labor positions and more.  A Doula may also act as a mediator and advocate who's there to run interference with hospital personnel, as well as translate medical terms and explain procedures.  Doulas educate you on the process of labor and delivery, with the goal of making it less scary and more comfortable so you're empowered to take a more active role in your birth.

What are the benefits of having a Doula?

With the primary focus on the baby, a Doula provides necessary attention to the birthing person.  Being an anchor of support and knowledge for the length of the pregnancy, labor and beyond.

Studies have shown that having a Doula can help cut back on time spent in labor, reduce anxiety and pain management, be a source of comfort and encouragement, lower the rate of medical interventions (including C-sections) and improve mother-baby bonding post-birth.

How does the Doula process work?

We will meet over FaceTime or in person (depending on location) for emotional support check-in's, educational workshops and birth planning.

What about Postpartum?

The primary focus of postpartum Doulas is to help new Moms cope with common post-birth issues related to bathing, diapering, swaddling, sleeping, nursing and more.  They're there to advise you and give you confidence to take care of your baby, but not to watch the little one like a nanny or nurse.  They also lookout for signs of postpartum anxiety or depression equipped with resources and recommendations.
